The Team
It started with a conversation at a friend’s mum’s 50th birthday party. Luke was 18, bored with manufacturing motorbike chains, and happened to be talking to someone who ran a kitchen company in Manchester. “Come through,” he said. “I know we’re taking somebody on.”
That apprenticeship changed everything. For years, Luke fitted kitchens, learning every product inside out, every installation challenge, and every way a project could go wrong — and how to fix it before the customer ever noticed.
When redundancy came in 2007, Luke's employer did something unexpected. He let him keep the van and tools, offered him self-employed work, and backed him to make it on his own.
That generosity stuck, and it still shapes the way we run the business today.
By 2013, a back injury meant Luke couldn't fit kitchens anymore. After moving to York, where his parents had relocated, he was faced with a choice: walk away from kitchens entirely, or build something different.
He opened the showroom.
In 2017, Rebecca came in to help out for a while — and never left.
Luke had built his reputation on design expertise and deep product knowledge. Rebecca brought the organisation and admin skills that made sure nothing fell through the cracks. As Luke puts it, "Together, it just works so well."
As the business grew, so did the showroom. In 2021, we extended the original York space by taking over the neighbouring unit. A year later, we opened a second showroom in Malton to see whether what we'd built in York could work somewhere else too.
Running two locations taught us something important. We didn't want to spread ourselves thin or compromise on the thing that matters most: being present for every client, knowing every project inside out, and maintaining the standards we'd set.
So in 2025, we made the decision to bring everything together under one roof.
Today we're based in a 3,200 square foot showroom at Kettlestring Park - the largest independent kitchen showroom in York. Along the way, we became a NEFF MasterPartner, earned Platinum status with Masterclass Kitchens, and built relationships with premium brands including Sub-Zero & Wolf and Siemens.
The Team
Behind every project is a small team who stay closely involved from the first conversation to the final installation.
We don’t pass clients between departments or treat projects like production lines. The same people who help design your kitchen are the people who make sure everything runs smoothly all the way through.
Founder
Luke began his career fitting kitchens, which means he understands something many designers never experience: how a kitchen actually gets built.
Years spent installing kitchens taught him the practical side of the industry - how products behave in real homes, how installations succeed or fail, and the small details that make the difference between a kitchen that simply looks good and one that genuinely works.
Today Luke focuses on design, helping clients translate ideas into spaces that feel natural, practical and built to last. The mindset is still the same: if something won't work in the real world, it doesn't belong in the design.

Operations & Administration
Rebecca helps keep every project organised behind the scenes.

Designer & Client Support
Clare supports both the design process and the day-to-day running of the showroom.

We’ve deliberately stayed a small team because it allows us to stay closely involved in every project. When you work with Counter Interiors, you’re dealing with the people who know your kitchen best.
What matters most isn’t the size of the showroom or the list of brands on the wall. It’s what all that experience means for the people who work with us.
Luke’s fitting background means every design considers the reality of installation. Rebecca’s organisation means clients feel supported from start to finish. And as a family business, our reputation is personal — it’s our name, our standards and the way we’ve chosen to build something that lasts.
